5 Famous Classic Cars That Appear on TV

It’s no secret that classic cars are timeless, from stylish Jaguars, to the awesome Aston Martin. They represent the pinnacle of car engineering, with their sleek designs and performance. Many of these models have become well known on TV, raising the profile of the vehicle and show. Here are five of the most famous classic cars to appear on TV.

1) 1969 Dodge Charger in Dukes of Hazzard

One of the most iconic cars in popular culture, The General Lee, driven by Duke cousins, Bo and Luke, was based on a 1969 Dodge Charger. From the bright orange colour, to the ‘01’ painted on the side, the car stands out for its striking appearance. The name of the car comes from the American Civil War Confederate, General Robert E. Lee, fitting with the southern aesthetic from the show.

Interestingly, it’s estimated 325 chargers were used during the history of Dukes of Hazzard, according to cast member Ben Jones, who played Cooter. The General Lee is a testament to the hardiness of the American spirit.

2)  1960 Mark II Jaguar in Inspector Morse

A classic car taken from the British drama Inspector Morse, the Mark II Jaguar is Morse’s pride and joy. The red paint reflects an attention to detail that makes the car a quintessential British icon. The original car was purchased in 2005 by Ian Berg, who decided to display it for the public by showing it at events.

3) 1967 Chevrolet Impala in Supernatural

Nicknamed ‘Baby,’ by Dean Winchester, the Impala has become an integral part of Supernatural. The show follows the Winchester brothers, who travel around America hunting supernatural creatures. Eight versions of the car are used, with the first car having logged 12,000 miles. The Impala is a wonderful example of an American muscle car, featuring a smooth hood and stylish wheels.

4)  1986 Ferrari Testarossa in Miami Vice

Driven by James ‘Sonny’ Crockett, the white 1986 Ferrari Testarossa is one of the most recognised cars in Miami Vice. With an elegant shape and big wheels, the Testarossa is the personification of speed. The interior of the vehicle has a comfortable feeling, featuring plush seats and a manual gearbox.

5)  1983 Audi Quattro in Ashes to Ashes

One of the most famous vehicles in British TV history, the 1983 Audi Quattro appeared on Ashes to Ashes. An interesting fact about the car is that is was modified to depict the deliberate 1980s anachronisms found in the show. The Quattro carries bullet holes from the 2010 finale, adding to its rugged appeal.

Classic cars are an ideal addition to any TV show or film, whether it’s the 1973 Ford Mustang from Gone in 60 Seconds, or the 1970 Dodge Charger from The Fast and the Furious. They become characters in their own right, with a unique mythology surrounding them.
