6 Expensive Classic Cars

A certainty with classic cars is that they are bound to be as expensive as they are beautiful. Enthusiasts are willing to spend a fortune to get their ideal vehicle. But just how much money do the most expensive classic cars go far? Here are six of the most expensive classics in the world.

Ferrari 250 GTO for £29,312,466

Launched in 1962, the Ferrari 250 GTO was designed to compete in Group 3 Grand Tour racing. Known for both its speed and beauty, the GTO came with a 3.0-litre V12 engine. It rivalled cars like the Shelby Cobra and Jaguar E-Type for performance. Only 39 GTOs were ever made, make it highly sought after by collectors.

Chris Evans went as far as to pay £12 million for chassis number 4675 GT and the current rate for the GTO is £29,312,466.

Mercedes-Benz W196 for £22,796,762

The Mercedes-Benz W196’s success goes back to 1955, when it won nine out of twelve races in Grand Prix racing. Driven by Argentinian Juan Manuel Fangio, the car secured the F1 driver’s championship. Fangio’s car was sold for £19 million in 2013, but it’s estimated that it could be worth as much as £22,276,762 today.

Jaguar D-Type for £16,835,433

The Jaguar D-Type was influenced by the aviation industry, as seen from the aerodynamic body. Designed to compete in sports car racing, the car entered into the 1957 24 hours Le Mans and scored first, second, third, fourth and sixth positions at the event. If the car was sold at auction today then it would fetch a price of £16,835,433.

Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe for £15,968,926

Created by the French coachbuilder Kellner, the 1932 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe was built for the London Olympia motor show. It’s famous for having a 12.7-litre V16 aircraft engine, which is one of the largest engines fitted to a production car. It’s estimated that it could sell for £15,968,926.

Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Lungo Spider for £15,247,835

The Alfa Romeo Lungo Spider is a rare car that was introduced in 1939. Only seven were ever built and according to the Daily Telegraph, each model would have cost just £1150. Fast forward to the modern day, and the price for the car is estimated at £15,247,835. The car had a 2.9-litre eight-cylinder engine that allowed it to reach a top speed of 110mph.

Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato for £11,168,714

The Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato debuted at the London Motor Show in 1960. It was an Italian take on a British sports car, designed by Italian coachbuilder Zagato. The car came with a 3.7-litre straight-six engine that produced 314 bhp, which made it a powerful vehicle for the 1960s. If the DB4GT appeared at auction today then it’s estimated it would be worth £11,168,714.
