Audi TT Voted Most Likely Future Classic In Carole Nash Survey

It’s no secret that classic cars are beautiful machines, but it’s easy to forget they didn’t start off as classics. It took decades for a car like the Mini to be recognised as a classic. Several contemporary cars have the potential to be future classics. A guaranteed classic is the 1991 Mazda MX-5 Eunos* which we’re giving away in our free prize draw. The competition runs up to Friday 20th October 2017 and you can enter by calling us for a classic car quote. Existing Carole Nash policyholders have automatically been entered into the competition.

Inspired by the competition, we asked over 1000 drivers across the UK and Ireland what car they thought had the greatest chance of becoming a future classic. The study showed that younger people value their current cars more than the older generation, with 63% of 25 to 34-year olds believing their motor would be a collectible one day compared to 16% of people aged over 55. Another interesting statistic showed that younger people spent more money keeping their car in good condition, with 35% shelling out up to £1800 per year.

The top five cars that were chosen included the Audi TT, BMW Mini Hatchback, Volkswagen Golf GTI, BMW 3 Series Coupe and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The Audi TT topped the list with 36%, despite only 5% of British and Irish drivers having owned one. 30% went with the Mini Hatchback, which was owned by the same amount of people. At 7%, the VW Golf GTI was the most commonly owned car in the past five years and 22% of people thought it would be a future classic.

Our ambassador, Fuzz Townshend has given his opinion on his top five future classics.

1.  Mazda MX5

“If you’re looking for an easy to live with future classic convertible, the MX5 fits the bill, with plentiful spares supply, great build quality and easy driving characteristics.”

2.  Land Rover Discovery (Series One and Two)

“Land Rover is known for making products with great longevity and the Discoveries from the first 15 years or so of production are becoming sought after, especially the Series One versions.”

3. Jaguar XK8 / XKR

“Second generation XK8s and XKRs are still great looking cars, even though it’s ten years since production started - they are splendid grand tourers.”

4.  BMW Mini

“Whichever version floats your boat, the style remains a testament to design teams who have worked on the various models. There’s a growing scene based around these cars and personalisation is high on the agenda.”

5. Volkswagen Scirocco (Third Generation)

“The Volkswagen Scirocco’s third generation imprint really put the model back into people’s minds. The VW enthusiasts’ scene really takes some beating and even a car as new as this will be welcomed at most marque oriented events.”
