Autojumbles for Dummies

Autojumbles are basically huge car boot sales, but rather than specialising in tat that nobody really wants, autojumbles sell second hand car parts.

For those that regularly read our monthly events calendar, the term 'autojumble' will look familiar – unsurprising, given there are normally tons of these events taking place up and down the country on a weekly basis. But while the term itself may look familiar, the actual goings-on of an autojumble might be a little less so. That's why we've whipped together a super-quick guide to help you navigate the wonderful world of autojumbles!

Are they any good?

If you're in the market for a particular part, or think you'd just like to spend some time mingling with likeminded enthusiasts, then yes, autojumbles are very good. However, if you're looking for a family day out and need something that's going to entertain the kids, you might be best off looking elsewhere.

What can I find there?

One of the best things about autojumbles is that there's literally thousands of parts laid out for all to see – meaning that even if you've looked in every corner on the internet for a particular part with no joy, there's a strong chance you could leave the autojumble with that same part tucked neatly in your pocket.

Autojumbles are great for savings too, as the vast majority of the goods on sale are much cheaper than those found elsewhere. To see how much you could save, try sourcing a particular part online and noting down its price – once you've done this, you'll have something to compare the parts at the sale with.

If you already have a part that needs replacing, take along a photograph or the part itself to make sure your purchase is identical (you may even get a part exchange deal!).

Who are autojumbles for?

As we mentioned earlier, autojumbles probably aren't the best if you're looking to treat your family to a grand day out, but they are great if you're a classic car enthusiast in the market for a certain part, or vehicle.

Although the majority of the stock at autojumbles falls under the umbrella term 'parts', there are normally a few vehicles for sale too – ranging between clapped-out bangers to fully restored beauties. In the market for a fresh set of wheels? The autojumble could be the perfect place to start, in more ways than one.

What do they cost?

At the majority of autojumbles, the only thing you'll have to pay for is parking, although if you do have to pay an entrance fee, it shouldn't be more than a couple of quid.

Should I bother?

Absolutely.

Not only do autojumbles unite enthusiasts, they also provide the perfect environment for said enthusiasts to sniff out the perfect part for their respective projects.  Whether you're a novice looking to learn more about the world of classic motors, or a seasoned pro in the market for something new, there's never an autojumble too far away!

Thinking you'd like to dive in and kick start your autojumbling career? Be sure to check out our monthly events calendar to find an event near you today.
