Classic car gifts for Father's Day
Father's Day is your chance to show the Dad in your life how much you appreciate him – and if he's a classic car enthusiast, your job just got a lot easier! From spare parts to club memberships, there's always something the vintage motor fan needs. Get some inspiration from our list of classic car gifts:
Scour eBay, Gumtree or specialist collectors' shops for items relating to Dad's pride and joy. Most classic enthusiasts love the nostalgic side of their hobby, so old advertising signs and posters, car badges and collectible cigarette cards relating to their brand of choice can be great gifts. Even more obscure items such as original owner's manuals and petrol cans can make valuable additions to a collection!
"Carlectables", as they're known, exist for makes and models from nearly every decade as die-cast miniatures or as self-assembly kits, which can make a nice little side project for when he's at his wit's end with the real one. For an extra-personal touch, try getting Dad's number plate made in miniature to put on the model – who says toy cars are for kids?
Membership of an owners club is a fantastic present – and if your Dad's already a member, perhaps you could pay for his annual subscription. Carole Nash has a handy list of classic car clubs in the UK, so check out your nearest club and get in touch: membership usually includes newsletters and magazines, social events and exclusive web content.
Accessories and parts
If your Dad's working on a restoration project and is always short of parts, why not hunt down some of the tricky-to-source bits and pieces for him? From ignition switches to gear knobs and clocks, original parts are prized by collectors for making a restoration extra-authentic. Alternatively, accessories like seat covers, tarps and replica tax discs can make ideal gifts.
Book a track day at Heyford Park or Goodwood to give Dad a chance to feel the wind in (what's left of) his hair, or a day out at a place like Beaulieu or his favourite motor museum – not just a great present, but a chance to spend some quality time together too.
