John Surtees To Make Guest Appearance At Donington Historic Racing Festival
British racing legend John Surtees will be the guest of honour at this year's Donington Historic Festival, which will take place on 3-5 May. Surtees will be making an appearance on the Sunday and Monday of the May bank holiday weekend, the Stoke Sentinel reported.
John Surtees is the only man who holds world champion titles on both two and four-wheeled vehicles. He won titles on 350 and 500cc motorbikes for MV Augusta before racing for Ferrari and winning the Formula One 50 years ago.
Visitors to the event will be able to meet Surtees, who will also be holding autograph sessions for his fans.
The event's organiser, Duncan Wiltshire, said that Surtees' appearance will be a great chance for people to pay tribute to a legendary record holder and a truly fantastic rider and driver. The Historic Festival is a celebration of the golden days of sport, and there will be over 400 historic racing cars for all to see, Wiltshire added.
John Surtees won 290 of the 621 races he entered, while also finishing in the top three in 103 of them. This makes him one of the most successful people in motor racing history. Surtees also designed, manufactured and raced his own cars.
Managing director of Donington Park, Christopher Tate, noted that this year marks both John's 80th birthday and the anniversary of his 50th world championship.
The Donington Historic Festival is a fantastic day out for all the family. More information can be found on the event website
