Top Five Summer Driving Routes In The UK

April 30, 2014

There's nothing better than hitting the road in a classic car on a hot summer day, and the UK has some of the most beautiful routes in the world. Here are our top picks for this coming summer:

Minehead to Barnstaple, A39

This route takes you from the coastal town of Minehead, up through Exmoor to Britain's oldest borough - Barnstaple. Situated along 30-odd miles of the A39, this route may begin looking like standard tarmac, but it quickly opens up onto some stunning views. After the ascent into Exmoor, you are greeted with the stunning rolling countryside of Exmoor National Park.

Loch Lomond to Loch Ness, A82?

Stretching out over 140 miles, this route takes in miles of Loch-side scenery and mountainous views. The road morphs and hugs the curves of the landscape which, although claustrophobic at times, is always exciting - including one of the most dangerous stretches of road in Scotland. Try this if you're feeling brave.

Aberystwyth to Llangurig, A44?

Some of Wales' most beautiful countryside and scenery can be found along this 25 mile stretch of road. Take in the valleys and ever expanding expanse of greenery along this fluid, easy drive. Just be sure to keep your eyes on the road, as the views are breath-taking and can become distracting. Remember: safety first.

St Ives to St Just, B3306

Despite this road needing a little more concentration than normal due to the tightness, it is well worth the extra focus needed. The tight bends will keep any driver on his or her toes, but fully engaged and keen to find out what lies beyond.

Cheddar to Ashwick, B3135?

Whilst only a short stretch of road at 14 miles, the B3135 does not disappoint. The scenery is certainly imposing and has left few options for where the road can go; slaloming its way through the cliffs, the road tries hard to weave its way through the ancient rock and gives the impression of an ancient landscape.
