Classic Campervan Insurance

For motorists who want to take their home with them on the road, a classic campervan is the perfect vehicle. They are a combination of practicality and comfort. Classic campervans go beyond being a mode of transport because driving one gives you the opportunity to create fond memories. Whether you're going on a weekend sojourn, or driving to the countryside, a campervan will get you where you need to go.

Campervan models are as diverse as their drivers, ranging from split-screens to late bay vehicles. At Carole Nash, we understand that different campers have different requirements, and that extends to insurance. No matter what model you own, we're dedicated to helping you find the right kind of insurance for your camper.

What kind of classic campervans are there?

There are a number of campers to choose from, including the split screen, early bay, late bay, T3, T4 and T5. The split-screen was based on the Beetle car, coming off the production line in 1950. The first split screen conversions were supplied with an awning, supported by a pair of poles and guy-ropes. The model became very popular worldwide, going through a number of improvements, such as an increase from 1131cc to 1500cc.

The early bay model, named for the single-piece double curvature windscreen, was introduced in 1967. The design took over from the split screen and added more light and air to the campervan. The late bay model was brought out in 1971 and it featured squared-off indicators mounted at each end of the front air intake grille.

In 1979, the T3 Transporter was introduced, featuring a robust and angular design. It served as the blueprint for the T4 and T5 models.

Buying and owning a classic campervan

When buying a classic campervan, you should take a few things into consideration. Start by setting a budget for your purchase and doing some research. There are plenty of online campervan dealerships to check out. Buying from a dealer can be more expensive than buying privately, but the dealer will tell you if there are any issues with the vehicle and how you can rectify them. If you're buying a camper privately, then you'll need to check the seller's credentials and the history of the vehicle.
